The speaker was Priv.-Doz. Dr. habil. Annette Meister from the Martin Luther Univeristy Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
Abstract
After a short introduction presenting the most recent examples in high resolution cryo electron microscopy (EM) of membrane proteins, this seminar was focused on morphological EM studies with self-assembled soft matter aggregates. Different preparation techniques for EM samples, as well as advantages, disadvantages, and artefacts of negative stain and cryo EM were discussed considering the following questions:
- Negative stain or cryo EM: Is cryo always better?
- Structural pathways of vesicle solubilization: Is there a limit?
- Visualization of nanodiscs: What can we learn from negative stain and cryo EM?
