Webinar January 2023 – Dr. Skupin-Mrugalska

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, an online seminar on "Saturated phospholipids as components of solid dispersions for oral applications" was held at 3.30 p.m. (CET).

The speaker was Dr. Paulina Skupin-Mrugalska from Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS), Poland.

Abstract

Phospholipids are most known for their use as building blocks of liposomes and other nanocarriers, such as solid lipid nanoparticles. In oral formulations, phospholipids are mainly used as solubilizers, wetting agents and emulsifiers, and for these applications, unsaturated phospholipids have been studied predominantly. In contrast, the use of hydrogenated phospholipids as excipients for oral dosage forms is still in its infancy. In our recent study, we evaluated the feasibility of hydrogenated phospholipids as components of matrix material (alone or in combination with polymers) for solid dispersions of poorly soluble drugs.

In the seminar, we would therefore like to give an overview of the recent studies related to the application of saturated phospholipids in oral formulations. We will also discuss the role saturated phospholipids may play when used as components of solid dispersions.
