GEM and APPICOM Joint Meeting
At the Confluence of Biomembrane Sciences: XXIV GEM and 7th APPICOM joint meeting, Lyon, France | 4-6 November 2026
The XXIV GEM and 7th APPICOM joint meeting, “At the Confluence of Biomembrane Sciences”, is an international scientific conference dedicated to recent advances in the rapidly evolving field of biomembrane science. The meeting will take place from 4-6 November 2026 at the Domaine Saint-Joseph in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, France.
The conference brings together researchers working on cellular membranes, membrane proteins, native and model membrane systems, and membrane-related processes in health and disease. It provides a multidisciplinary forum for scientists from biology, biochemistry, biophysics, physics, chemistry, and computational sciences.
The Phospholipid Research Center is pleased to support the meeting as a Platinum Sponsor. By supporting the GEM/APPICOM meeting, the PRC aims to strengthen scientific exchange between researchers working on phospholipids, biomembranes, membrane structure and dynamics, and lipid-based technologies.

About the meeting
Biomembranes are central to biological function. They define cellular compartments, regulate molecular transport and signaling, host membrane proteins, and provide the structural and dynamic basis for many physiological and pathological processes.
The GEM/APPICOM joint meeting addresses these topics across different scales, from molecular membrane organization and membrane protein structure to cellular membrane dynamics and complex biological systems. The scientific program will include keynote lectures, contributed talks, and poster sessions, offering opportunities for both established scientists and early-career researchers to present and discuss their work.
The meeting is particularly relevant for researchers interested in membrane biophysics, phospholipid organization and dynamics, lipid-protein interactions, membrane remodeling, and experimental or computational approaches to membrane science.
Scientific Topics
The conference programme will cover a broad range of topics in biomembrane science, including:
- Membrane mechanics and remodeling
- Structure and dynamics of membrane proteins
- Chemical and biophysical tools for membrane research
- Interactions with membranes
- Lipid organization and dynamics
- Membranes at interfaces
- Theoretical and computational approaches
These topics are highly relevant to the PRC community, as phospholipids play a fundamental role in membrane architecture, membrane dynamics, lipid-based drug delivery systems, and the design of advanced biomimetic and pharmaceutical technologies.
PRC Participation
The Phospholipid Research Center will support the XXIV GEM and 7th APPICOM joint meeting as a Platinum Sponsor.
In addition, the PRC will contribute to the meeting with a short introductory presentation highlighting the mission of the Phospholipid Research Center and its role in promoting international research on phospholipids.
Researchers from the PRC network and PRC-funded projects are encouraged to consider contributing to the meeting. Abstracts may be submitted for poster presentation or oral presentation, subject to the selection process of the organizers.
Invited Speakers
The meeting will feature invited speakers from leading research institutions across Europe, covering different aspects of biomembrane science, membrane proteins, lipid biology, biophysics, and computational membrane research.
Confirmed invited speakers include researchers from institutions such as the University of Trieste, École Normale Supérieure de Paris, University of Leeds, ENS de Lyon, EPFL, Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, CNRS Toulouse, and KTH Stockholm.
Registration and Abstract Submission
Registration and abstract submission are handled by the official conference organizers.
Participation is limited to 150 participants, and early registration is recommended. Registered participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for poster or oral presentation.
Important dates:
- Abstract submission deadline: 10 July 2026
- Notification of oral presentation selection: 21 July 2026
- Final registration and payment deadline: 21 August 2026
- Arrival at Domaine Saint-Joseph: 4 November 2026
- Departure from Domaine Saint-Joseph: 6 November 2026
For registration, abstract submission, fees, and accommodation options, please visit the official conference website.
Location
The meeting will be held at the Domaine Saint-Joseph in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, France. The venue offers meeting rooms, accommodation, and dining facilities in one location, creating an environment that supports scientific exchange and discussion.
Lyon is one of France’s major scientific and cultural cities and is easily accessible by air, high-speed train, and road. Its location at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers also reflects the interdisciplinary spirit of the meeting: bringing together different scientific communities working on membranes across scales and disciplines.
